On Saturday June 3, Prof. dr. Asghar Seyed-Gohrab and Dr. Zhinia Noorian will each give a lecture at the exhibition ‘Het beeld hervonden’ (‘The image regained’) in Eindhoven. After the devastating earthquake in Bam on 26 December 2003, the Iranian photographer and visual historian Parisa Damandan found thousands of photos in the debris. Visual artist Rudi Struik has created mixed media installations with these photos.

In her lecture ‘Parvīn Iᶜtiṣāmī (1907-1941), the Poet of the Voiceless’, Zhinia Noorian will show how this popular poet empowers voiceless people by providing them the space to confront those who want to subjugate them.

In his lecture (in Dutch), ‘Perzische vrouwen aan het woord: van Rabe’a tot Fatemeh Shams’, Asghar Seyed-Gohrab devotes his attention to a millennium of Persian poetry, highlighting several female poets and discussing how they compose poetry about their own lives and loves, dealing with social and gender inequality.

In addition to these lectures, Rokus de Groot, composer and emeritus professor of Musicology (University of Amsterdam) will present several musical pieces and live performances by Marianne Selleger (alt/mezzosopraan) and Eduard van Regteren Altena (cello). The program will be hosted by Professor Kitty Zijlmans en Rudi Struik.
