On 7 November our team member Zhinia Noorian will defend her thesis ‘Sapling of Hope’! In her thesis Zhinia has explored the poetical work of the Iranian female poet Parvīn Iᶜtiṣāmī (1907-1941), who used poetry as a vehicle to deliver social, political and religious criticism. Many of the topics that Iᶜtiṣāmī treated in her poetry are still relevant today in Iran, such as women’s rights and the hypocrisy of the religious authorities.
