Poetry plays a central role in Persian culture, and Hafez (1315-1390) is undoubtedly one of the greatest poets. After 700 years, we still see his poems in everyday life. Everyone who speaks Persian knows at least a few of Hafez’s verses by heart. His poems appear in paintings, carpets, and are put in music, and graffiti artists use his poetry.
This lecture will explore Hafez’s significance in Persian culture and how his poetry frequently pops up in the museums, including in The Mesdag Collection.
Next to the lecture, Dr Zhinia Noorian will recite a few of Hafez’s poems.
When: March 21
Where: De Mesdag Collectie, The Hague
